Main Street Revitalization - Simon Ott

My work over the last few years has involved restoring buildings along Main St in Shawnee.  This particular building was for a client who is a dog trainer.  We completely renovated the 1920's building on the interior, removed the 50's renovated front and built a new front out of reclaimed lumber obtained from support beams salvaged from a warehouse in Chicago.  The design was inspired by several older storefronts and was intended to reflect the original flavor of the turn of the century built Main St including stamped metal cornice from a company that has been in business since 1898.  I thoroughly enjoy seeing people's response and appreciation to the change.  While we were finishing up, almost every day someone would walk up and run their hands over the fluted colums admiring the wood grain.
