Taipei 101--Shuyu Meng

This tall building is Taipei 101. It is a landmark skyscraper located in Xinyi District. It is the tallest building in Taipei. The whole building is divided into 9 parts in vertical. It makes the building more stable. And it is a idea from bamboo. It is not only looks like bamboo but also have good meaning of wealthy.
The building is really brilliant.

National Museum of China--Shuyu Meng

This is National Museum of China. It's located at the east side of Tiananmen Square. It is a grand building. There are marble pillars at the front of the building. Inside the building, there are a huge hall and several exhibition rooms.
Opposite with this building is the Great Hall of the People. We can see brilliant landscape from the top stairs of this museum building.

Characteristic buildings in Tianjin--Shuyu Meng

Tianjin is in northern China near Beijing. Tianjin is a big city just like Beijing, and it is a coastal city. So this city is really different from its neighbor.
There are many buildings built in 1920s in the old town. These building were usually built for officers or celebrities. At that time, these building were usually built with Western style, which is different from traditional wooden buildings. We can see carved pillars arched windows and brown bricks.
This city is brilliant when is night. Around the river, old buildings and modern buildings are all illuminated by bright colorful neon light. It is really relax to hang out around the shoresides at nights.

Oklahoma Memorial Stadium - Danny Wyatt

This building is one of my favorites of all time. I have had so many good memories inside these walls. I love the architecture because everything on it looks so permanent. Some form of this structure will probably be standing until the world ends, because we are so driven by tradition. I love the brick work and how meticulous the design is on the stadium. It is built well enough to look modern, but enough money has been pumped into its design and construction that it will always look historic. They recently approved for the development and expansion of the stadium, which should make for an interesting new look. Most importantly, this is a structure where I fell in love with OU and on Friday, I will be dismissed with my diploma. I love what this building represents to me.

Highland Park United Methodist Church - Danny Wyatt

This is the United Methodist Church located in Highland Park, TX. I love the architecture of churches, and this one especially. I appreciate the stonework of this building and the accentuation of the tower. I cannot for the life of me think of what the feature is called but I like the top of the tower, where the blocks are alternating in a rigid pattern. This is the church where George Bush attends, so it is naturally a point of interest. One interesting characteristic of this building is its distinct lack of windows. Without artificial interior lighting, this building would not be functional, because on the outside, the stained glass lets in very limited light.

Cooper Chapel, Bella Vista, AR - Danny Wyatt

This is one of the most beautiful chapels I have ever visited. This is a chapel located in Northwest Arkansas where they do weddings and funerals. The architecture of this chapel is brilliant, because I feel that it blends in very well with the natural surroundings. From the road and parking lot, you cannot see the chapel, so the serenity and seclusion are almost inherent in its design. To the North, a lake sits to offer a tranquil feeling during ceremonies.

Three Partners Place - Danny Wyatt

This place is relatively new in my life. Since enrolling in this course, I have interviewed, interned, and now accepted a full time position with a company at this office. I hate the architecture of this place, and as you said in this course, the "green" developments of this place are mostly for the sake of saying that they are economically and environmentally conscious, despite the impracticality of such developments. I like that the inside of the building feels modern, but I do not find this building aesthetically pleasing.

Family Cabin - Danny Wyatt

This is a picture of our family's cabin in Colorado. I love this kind of architecture because it is simple and uses wood. I have always had an affinity for woodworking and the architecture commonly found in cabin construction. I really appreciate the steep pitches of roofs so that snow can fall off as it melts. I really love how beautifully crafted the walls and the patina that old wood develops over time.

Presbyterian Church, Bristow, OK - Danny Wyatt

In my last post, I said that the FBC Bristow offered the best architectural example in my hometown. However, after thought, this building is probably the most beautiful in my example. The church is made completely of stone and always creeped me out because of its gothic look. I love the archways of the entrance and how emphasized the windows and tower are. This building is beautiful, but does not hold much meaning to me.

First Baptist Church - Danny Wyatt

This is an image of the First Baptist Church in Bristow, Oklahoma. Architecturally speaking, this is probably all that Bristow has to offer. I have enjoyed these postings because through them, I have reconnected with my childhood and really explored what buildings have meaning to me. This building saw the development and maturation of my faith and grew me as a leader. I like the use of columns, and the clay roof-- this building was always beautiful to me as a child because as you can see from my older posts, Bristow did not have a lot of money--so this building was a sort of anomaly.

The Silver Dome - Danny Wyatt

Wow, this is my favorite post so far. This is a picture of "The Silver Dome," located in my hometown of Bristow, Oklahoma. This building is absolutely hideous--corrugated tin covers the whole thing, and during summertime this building is all of 110 degrees inside. It was in this building that I fell in love with baseball. I spent a lot of time on the diamond in my youth and this building contained in it pitching machines and batting cages. I threw bullpens in here all summer long and this building was conducive to a lot of my growth as a child and ball player. Architecturally, it is probably the ugliest and most insignificant building on this blog, but it has incredible meaning to me, despite its thoughtless design.

Washington Elementary -- Danny Wyatt

This is a perfect example of a building that evokes awful memories for me. This school is where I attended 4th and 5th grade, and I swear that it was a 2 year long health code violation. The inside of the building was rotted and as we walked down the hallways, we were able to peel the paint off the walls. The building smelled of mold and old wood, and the gym was a converted cafeteria. I hated this building with everything in me, and it still stands today.

Kindergarten - Danny Wyatt

This is a photo of my kindergarten. I moved to Bristow, OK when I began schooling, and in this room I made my first best friend and fell in love with school. A very boring building on the outside, but it is a prime example of how a very normal and unappealing structure can evoke such colorful memories and wonderful feelings. I am thankful for the meaning that this building holds in my heart.

Hometown Train Station - Danny Wyatt

This is not a real great picture, but this is picture was taken at my hometown in Bristow, Oklahoma. My dad spent a lot of time as a director of sports and community development and helped with an effort to revitalize and renovate the historic parts of the city -- this train station was a part of that effort. I think the building is beautiful and displays proudly what the city square used to be. This train station now serves as a museum, and I think the building is beautiful. I spent many summers raking leaves and cleaning up the weeds in this area as a child.

Bizzell - Tucker Walton

The biz has to be one of my favorite buildings on campus. Pretty much every time I'm there I end up walking through the stacks and Great Reading Room just to take a look. It's such a beautiful place. However, this past week has really burnt me out. I've spent more time than I care to admit in this place, arriving at the end of the day and leaving long after the sun has already risen. For now the biz means torture, but eventually I'll forgive it for what it's done to me.

Oklahoma Memorial Stadium - Tucker Walton

When I see the stadium I think about Sooner football, but I also think about all of the other things that entails; grilling, tailgating, brothers, an ocean of crimson and cream on Lindsey, standing in the miserable heat and loving it - I could go on. The consistency of football season is one of the things that ties together my experiences as OU. Can't wait it to start back up next year!

Couch Tower - Tucker Walton

Couch was the dorm I lived in freshman year. A lot happened in this building; I made friends, narrowly avoided strikes, ate bread bowls, the usual. Freshman year was such a new and exciting time for me, and place really represents all of the wide-eyed, childlike joy I had felt.

Downtown Main Street - Tucker Walton

I couldn't really capture what downtown Main street is to me in a single picture. It's fun to be around buildings which were build nearly a century ago, but Main is more than an old part of town. I often go to the Garage and Das Bootcamp for great food and drinks, and always have a good time with the people I'm with. The 2nd Friday Circuit of Art is one of my favorite events to attend, and it takes place on and around Main. Nothing makes you feel cultured like looking at art with a glass of wine in hand.

Natural Grocers - Tucker Walton

It may sound absurd to say one loves going to the grocery store, but I love going to Natural Grocers. It's one of the few places in Norman where you can find a huge selection of organic food and drinks, and the prices aren't outrageous either. GT Dave's kombucha is a whole dollar cheaper at Natural Grocers than it is anywhere else, and this is more important to me than it probably should be. I feel at home at stores like this. The people that work at natural food stores are always seem nicer, too.

Blackbird - Tucker Walton

Blackbird is one of my favorite places to be on the weekend. It's usually less packed than most places on campus corner, and the drinks are cheaper too. For a bar, Blackbird is classy as hell (or at least makes you feel that way when you're drinking there). Bird's Nest, which is on the other side of the building, is another favorite place to go if you don't mind the smoke.

Sam Noble - Tucker Walton

If everything goes as planned, this place will be like a second home to me next year. I'm finally getting the opportunity to get research experience under a professor in the herpetology department. Can't wait to see what life as a researcher is actually like. Sam Noble is also just a genuinely awesome place to be, and I would recommend that all students take advantage of it.

Future Home - Tucker Walton

This will be my home soon. Three other friends and I had been looking for a place to live next year will mediocre results. Then we fell in love with this place. All hardwood floors, huge backyard; pretty much the perfect place to live for our senior year. Good times are sure to come.

The Lincoln - Tucker Walton

The Lincoln Apartments, better known as The Lincoln, was home to me and ~20 other guys in my fraternity last year. It has new tenants now, so don't expect to find me there. I've definitely seen classier apartments, but we made it our own during the time we had it. I'm glad to have moved on from, but my friends and I made countless great memories in this place. Never forget.

Gray Owl - Tucker Walton

Gray Owl means a lot of things to me. They serve the best Americano I've ever had, first and foremost. It's also a great place to study, take a date, or just relax and talk with friends. The design of the building and interior give off a warm, inviting atmosphere. This place is a refuge whenever you need to leave your whatever you're doing behind for a bit.

Thai Delight - Tucker Walton

I started coming to Thai Delight last year because it was the only Asian place open one Sunday when I went out with some friends. Ever since that day, Thai delight has been a staple for my friends and I. Going there means reminiscing, forming new memories with good people, and eating fantastic food. Try the spicy bamboo chicken when you go. Thank me later.

Library of Congress - Kara Miller

This is another one of my favorite sights in DC.  The Library of Congress is absolutely beautiful, and I would love to go back and revisit DC.

Capitol Building in DC - Kara Miller

This is the Capitol Building Rotunda.  This is by far my favorite feature.  I found the intricacy to fascinating.

Masonic Temple - Kara Miller

This is the Masonic Temple in McAlester, Ok.  It is something you can see from all over town.  The first picture is of an auditorium located on the inside.  I preformed dance routines here a couple times, and found this room to be beautiful.

St Mary's Cathedral - Kara Miller

This is St. Mary's Cathedral.  The original was destroyed by arson in 1962, and the new one was completed in 1971.  Due to the resemblance to a washing machine it is called "Our Lady of Maytag".

Sanchez Adobe - Kara Miller

This is the Sanchez Adobe.  It is located in Pacifica, California.  It was established in 1786 by Spanish explorers, and has been remolded several times.  It has been used as several things even a speak easy during prohibition, and it is now a California historical landmark.

Coit Tower - Kara Miller

Coit tower in San Francisco.  It was made in honor of the firefighters.  The resemblance of it looking like a fire hose is coincidental.  On the inside, it has murals.

Willis Tower (Sears Tower) - Kara Miller

This is Willis Tower; or Sears tower as some of you may know it.  On my eight grade trip I got to see it in the middle of winter.  I would like to go back and go out into the observation deck.

Alcatraz - Kara Miller

This is obviously Alcatraz.  I have always been eager to see this place, and this spring break, I was finally able to go see it.  Alcatraz has always peaked my interest for some reason.

My House - Kara Miller

This is my house.  This is my escape from everything.  It holds so many memories that I will cherish forever, and it holds a special place in my heart.

Dallas arboretum- Gabrielle Lockwood

The Dallas arboretum is absolutely gorgeous in every way. In the midst of its beautiful gardens, are  lovely little pieces of architecture. These include everything from houses to just really beautiful decorative walls.

Silk market- Gabrielle Lockwood

The silk market in Beijing is one of my favorite places that I visited while I was there. Although it is super busy all the time, and I got hit by 2 different cars walking into it, I really enjoyed my time here. The building is very functional for its purpose. It is large, airy and in the middle of the city. It also combines traditional chinese architecture with something more modern.

Norman train station- Gabrielle Lockwood

I frequently ride the amtrak to and from my parent's home in Dallas. I've always thought that the norman train station was very cute and quaint. It is a very small building but it still has a very traditional train station design.

Ellison hall- Gabrielle Lockwood

Ellison hall, the arts and sciences building, is one of my favorites on campus. Its architecture reminds me of the library's although it still has its own unique and classy feel. I mostly only come here for academic advisement.

HardRock Hotel in Tulsa- Karissa Schlickbernd

I went to here for a friend's wedding. It's a great place to experience. It's a really beautiful hotel with a casino and a concert hall. There are a lot of famous bands' dedicated guitars and whatnot to exhibit. I actually met the lead guitar player of Lynyrd Synyrd in the elevator. They were playing a concert that night I was there.

Austin, Texas River Walk- Karissa Schlickbernd

I loved how this placed lights up at night. Bricktown's River Walk was made similar to Austin's. This place draws many people with thriving businesses and restaurants surrounding it. The best part to me is just talking a walk around it. It is much larger than the one in Bricktown though.

The Alamo - Grant Baggs

This is the Alamo in San Antonio Texas. I went here with my family last semester and was amazed. I can't believe how well it has been preserved.

Chesapeake Arena - Grant Baggs

I recently went to Chesapeake Arena to watch to first playoff game of the post season. This place is awesome and has a great atmosphere.

Myriad Botanical Gardens - Grant Baggs

This is Myriad Botanical Gardens and Crystal Bridge tropical conservatory. I think this place is amazing inside and out. The architecture is truly amazing.

Macky Auditorium, Colorado University- Karissa Schlickbernd

I got the opportunity to see Boulder's campus when I visited. There were many beautiful buildings to see but The Macky Auditorium was a really neat building in my opinion.

Here is a picture of it on the inside. I thing the inside is more impressive.

Bricktown Canal - Grant Baggs

This is the Cigar Bar on the canal in Bricktown. I love the how they renovated all the old buildings along the canal and put restaurants in.

Bizzell Library- Jacob Daniel

The University has many great buildings on its campus. To me the Bizz is by far the most beautiful building we have. It looks as though the hunch back should be on the roof. I am so impressed by the castle style architecture that is used through out.

Elm Street Mansion- Jacob Daniel

This house is located on Elm Street just north of Boyd. To me it seems out of place. It has a giant floor plan with what looks like two full houses connected by a cross walk. It is one of my favorite houses in Norman.
