MIT's Great Dome - Lucas Schuermann

MIT’s Great Dome was designed by MIT architecture students (one of the first programs of its kind) on many of the same principles of the Pantheon, including the sightly tilted columns to improve viewing form the Killian Court. Because of its centrality to the campus, both literally and figuratively, MIT affiliates often refer to the Great Dome as  “The Center of the Universe.” One of the most influential experiences of my tour of MIT was standing in the middle of Killian Court looking at the Great Dome, a truly beautiful spectacle, which had a profound effect in solidifying my desire to one day stand in the same spot as a graduate of the institution.
