Nashville, Tennessee - Derek Malone

Downtown Nashville, Tennessee is one of the best entertainment scenes. At night there are live concerts playing in each of the bars that adds a unique experience.

Marina El Cid, Mexico - Derek Malone

Marina El Cid is a condo resort in Mazatlan, Mexico. My family takes a trip there once a year usually during Christmas.

Paseo Apartments-William Mangin

The Market at Paseo in Oklahoma City isn't much to look at from the outside, but when you enter into the courtyard everything changes. All of the front door to all the apartments opens into the courtyard, which allows for interaction among residents while also giving some privacy.

Convention Center, San Diego - Derek Malone

The convention center in San Diego, California. One of the most historic events that goes on in this building is ComicCon.

Rock Castle Home - Taylor Tannehill

This interesting home is located near downtown Tahlequah, Ok. Known as the Castle house to most residents, no one has lived here in years. When visiting the town this is definitely one thing that most people remember. I'm not sure why or who built this house but they certainly felt like they needed to be noticed. The exterior is all rock excluding the roof which is shingled. I'm not a particular fan of the design itself other than it is an interesting piece of architecture.

Lindbergh Field, California - Derek Malone

Lindbergh Field in San Diego, California is one of the most dangerous airports. Not because of the pattern entries or close vicinity to downtown but due to the amount of traffic that frequents the airport. The airport only has one runway and gets 550 flights a day. It is the busiest one runway commercial airport in the country.

Ratcliffe's Textbooks - Taylor Tannehill

The picture above shows the old interior of Ratcliffe's Textbooks. I am an employee there and spend about 4 hours a day inside this store. Recently, they have replaced the shelves and carpets making the place a little more inviting. There is nothing that really bothers me about the store itself but it doesn't really create an environment of wanting to be there either. It certainly, isn't conducive to a healthy work environment considering there are no windows and very little space to move around.

Klyde Warren Park-William Mangin

This is an overhead view of an awesome project in downtown Dallas. What is now a the park seen in the picture used to be just highway like on the left side of the image. On top of being an great public space, the park's location allows it to help merge Uptown with Downtown.

Sarkey's - Taylor Tannehill

Every one is familiar with Sarkey's Energy Center located on the Northeast edge of campus. Most people dread going to Sarkey's because of the walk I however, like spending my time there. The exterior is not very inviting but once you walk into the atrium you feel right at home. If the weather is nice and not windy there is also a nice garden on the south side to relax and study.

odd house- William Mangin

I first stop to look at this house because of the oddly shaped window, only then did I realize that the thing in the window is a stuffed bird.

House-William Mangin

The garage on this house seems to be added onto the existing structure. Instead of just building a roof however, they have created an outdoor space on the 2nd story.

I wrote about this house for my memorable buildings paper. This is one of my favorite houses because of the design. The dome shape feature allows for a greater square foot area on the inside but the a smaller footprint on the outside. Inside there is an open space floor plan with loft bedrooms. My favorite part of the house is the porch that wraps around the back of the house. The porch has a large elm tree coming up through it giving ample shad to the home and the porch area.

Norman House- William Mangin

This house has a very cool front porch that extends out at the corner to make a gazebo-like structure. There is tons of room to hangout outside, it turns the porch into almost an extra room for entertaining because of the added space in the corner.

Norman House-William Mangin

This house first caught my eye because of the balcony, and I planned to write about how I thought the balcony was a bad idea. I think it is too small for people to actually use the space; but there was something else, something about it seemed off to me. It wasn't until I looked at the picture later did I realize that the front door isn't centered with the balcony.

Norman House- William Mangin

The houses close to campus do not have very big lots, so to maximize the useable space this house has a private outdoor area with a roof that doubles as a balcony.

Devon Building (OU)-William Mangin

It may be hard to see, but while studying in one of the study rooms in Devon, I noticed that the windows were covered in little black dots. You can't even tell they are there while walking outside. The windows are floor to ceiling in this room, so I bet the glare would be pretty terrible without these little guys.

Stephenson Life Sciences Research Center- William Mangin

The walkway connecting the two wings of the Stephenson Life Sciences Research Center starts at the second floor. This makes the court yard in the center open from one end, allowing people to access it without going through the building and makes it feel way more open.

Consol Arena- Daly Searfoss

This is Consol energy arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My family is originally from Pittsburgh and I spent my childhood summers living there. I have been to a couple of Penguins games here and love this arena. It is unlike any arena I have ever been to. As you can see, the whole side is made of glass and steel. I think it gives it an awesome look.

Hyatt Regency Dallas- Daly Searfoss

Here is the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas. I have stayed here the past three OU Texas weekends and think the building is really cool. I like the all glass look and how the towers are tiered. Also, the microphone looking building is a restaurant that rotates. I think it is a pretty unique hotel.

Lake House- Daly Searfoss

This is my lake house on Possum Kingdom lake. I really like the different color brick used on the outside of the house with the combination of stucco. What I don't like is the metal roof. The house is built on a cliff, and has a really nice view.

Norman hospital- Braden Wallace

This is the Norman Hospital emergency entrance at Porter/Robinson. I had to go here two years ago when I had an appendectomy.

Price College- Daly Searfoss

Obviously this is Price College of Business. As a business student, I spend a lot of time studying here. I really like the gothic look of this building. The contrast with the brick and cement is also very pretty.

Stephenson Research and Technology Center- Braden Wallace

This is the inside of the Stephenson Research and Technology Center. I've had to come here for some of my chemistry professor's office hours. It is really big and spread out when you first walk in. Almost like a mall.

Two Partners Place -Braden Wallace

This is Two Partners Place, it's on OU's south research campus. I've been going here for neurological research participation. I like the flat and sharp edges of the building.

Qualcomm, San Diego - Derek Malone

Qualcomm Stadium, home of the San Diego Chargers.

Petco Park, San Diego - Derek Malone

Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.

Child Hood Home - Derek Malone

This is my child hood home in San Diego, California. Having growing up in this house my whole life up to the point of moving to Oklahoma for school there are a lot of memories that this picture brings back.

Pybus Point Lodge, Alaska - Derek Malone

Pybus Point Lodge in Alaska. The lodge resides on an island which is now protected by the Animal Reserve. The lodge offers five day/night fishing trips. In order to get to the island it requires to take a float plane from Juneau.

Hotel Coronado, California - Derek Malone

Hotel Coronado is a historic building in California. It was built in 1888 and in its time was the biggest resort hotel in the world and is the second largest wooden structure in the United States.

Kansai Airport, Japan - Derek Malone

Kansai Airport is the first airport to be built on the water. In order for this to be done the builders had to excavate three mountains to have a solid land base to build on. One of the most riveting facts about this airport is that it is sinking back into the ocean.

Big Ben, London - Derek Malone

Big Ben is a notable landmark for England and is one of the most visited areas when people travel to England. It is hard to describe for there are no words for it that would do it justice.

White Castle, London - Derek Malone

Here is a picture of White Castle in London. There is a lot of history with this building as it was used to put prisoners not only from crime but as well as from wars. There is also a level that they used to torture the prisoners in.

Max Westheimer Airport - Derek Malone

The drive into the parking lot at Max Westheimer Airport, the airport used to be a Navy base for flight training. Then after there was no more use for it from the Navy it was returned to the ownership of the University. This is where I spend 90% of my time either in class or flying in and out.

Small Garden - Coltan Franke

This is a little garden area with a fountain that I walk by a few times a week.

It is situated right north of the Union parking garage, which is a place where many students probably do not visit very often on purpose. However, this area is next to the university's visitor center. The area also presents a crossroads from the corner of a few populous streets, like Boyd and Asp.

MWood

So for my last entry....
No this is not a real picture of a forest, but just think if we could "grow" structures to reside in.

MWood on the road...

This is NSU Broken Arrow campus.  The roof is a crazy turquoise metal roof, and always looks interesting against the ever changing sky.   I have also noticed all the buildings are similar, but each is unique.  This is fitting for a school considering each building houses a different subject or approach to learning.

MWood Stay Healthy!!

Goddard has an interesting layout: Who hasn't gotten turned around in this building at least once?
I noticed recently that the 2nd floor windows are metallic looking (similar to the metallic panels used by Frank Ghery), and the views from the offices on the 2nd floor are unexpectedly nice.

This also has an axial approach in the walkways that draw you toward it, urging you to actively think about your health.

Gaylord Texan- Daly Searfoss

This is the Gaylord Texan hotel in Grapevine, Texas. When I come home, I like to go out to the Gaylord as it has an awesome bar and good food. I think this hotel is beautiful. It has almost an urban/gothic look to it that makes it unlike any hotels I have seen.

Doak Campbell Stadium- Daly Searfoss

This is Doak Campbell Stadium, Florida States football stadium. My older sister went to FSU so I have attended many games here. I think this is one of the coolest stadiums in college football. On the outside, the stadium has kind of a castle look to it. I also really like the color of brick they used.

Lifetime Fitness- Daly Searfoss

This is my home gym in Colleyville, Texas. I spend a lot of time here when I am home and really enjoy it. What I like most about this building is all of the glass. I also really like the landscape. I think the palm trees and gravel give the place a tropical feel which puts you in a good mood at the gym.

Union Parking Garage - Coltan Franke

I walk by the parking garage several times a week. When looking at the building, it's interesting to think about the design process of such a structure.

Here is a picture looking up into the ceilings of the levels of the parking garage. There is surely a reason that the garage is structured like this.

It's interesting to think about why the parking garage was built slanted. Who had this idea?

LSU Greek Amphitheater - Taylor Johnson

This is the LSU greek amphitheater, located in the center of campus. I thought this was an interesting thing to have on campus but I believe those designing the campus realized their students needed a place to voice their opinions and show their talents.

Library of Congress - Taylor Johnson

The Library of Congress is a great example of combining history, functionality, and good looking architecture. You can tell nothing was left out of this building in its construction. What I liked the most about the building is the ceilings, which you can see somewhat in this picture. They make you feel like you are in another world as you walk through, taking you to another time.

Huey P. Long Pool LSU - Taylor Johnson

This is an old pool complex on LSU and that is not closed down. They keep it standing because it is a local landmark. When I visited LSU, I found out that many of LSU's buildings were used in the movie Pitch Perfect. This is an interesting collision of whether to keep old buildings around because of the history and perhaps for other uses or tear it doen to make room for the new buildings.
