Mission San Jose is located in San Antonio, Texas and is actually the largest and most complete of all the missions in the area, including the Alamo. Restored by the WPA during the 1930s, it has been almost returned to its complete form when it was first used by the Spanish. There is a large wall surrounding the complex with rooms built in to house the occupants. The priest and other church clergy lived in a "apartment" attached to the back of the church with a large public garden. Spanish missions were built to be self sustaining so they had shops and markets in the mission for the mission inhabitants and the local native populations. It is still an active Catholic Parish but is also managed by the Parks Service.
