Downtown St. Louis - Convention Center - Simon Ott
Downtown St. Louis has an large relatively new convention center right in the middle of the downtown area. I liked the gentle curve of the front in the midst of the multitude of buildings. It was rather inviting. I stepped inside just to see the interior even though there was no events going on. The visitors center was on one corner and although the architectural style was certianly more modern than the surrounding buildings it worked well within the context. You may not be able to tell but the building facade evident in the background is actually the side or rear of that building. I suspect that side was abutted to another taller building because all the windows and balcony and detail you see on that building is all a faux finish. All of it is painted, even a person looking out on a balcony. I did a double take the first time I noticed, driving by it initially, I simply admired the building. It wasn't until I was walking by I saw it was just painted to look that way.
